After watching a few YouTube videos about Silk Elements Megasilk Olive Moisturizing Treatment I decided to try it out. I've been using it on and off for about 4 months because I wasn't sure if I really liked it or not. The packaging states that it is supposed to condition, strengthen, soften and restore moisture from the inside out. Its deep conditioning properties are supposed to reduce tangles, while giving the hair a healthier look, intense shine, and manageability without product build up.
For me the product does most of what it says. My hair felt softer, conditioned and very moisturized, I know this may sound strange, but the issue I have with this product is the over powering smell and my scalp seemed to itch like crazy after using it. Now the smell is a nice smell and it's what attracted me to the product in the first place. I thought it would be great if my hair smelled like this after use, but it was too much. It's so strong it gives me a headache while it's on my hair. I also noticed that my scalp was itching after rinsing the product out. I'm pretty sure it's the olive oil because I usually have this problem if I use olive oil on my hair.
However, I decided not to give up on this product completely....I've been using it mixed with oils for my prepoos. It seems to work better for me and the smell dies down after I continue with my regular wash day routine. No money is wasted here because I actually got this product for free with the purchase of $15 worth of hair supplies from Sally's. If you've used this product please let me know your thoughts on it.
Until next time~be blessed!
Blessed Tresses :-)
I'm glad you found a way for it to work for you. Thanks for the review because I can't stand strong smelling products!
ReplyDeleteI recently chose this product as my free gift for renewing my Sally's Beauty Club account. My sister told she liked it so I chose it and I really like it as well. My hair feels very soft and moisturized and it has great slip. It hasn't caused itchiness to my scalp. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies. I really think it's the olive oil, but I do love how it makes my hair feel. I'm glad I didn't have to get rid of it!
ReplyDeleteI can't bring myself to just throw products away, great that you found a way to use it.
ReplyDeleteGreat review, and your hair looks nice. I am following you. Stop by my place sometimes.

I have seen this product but for some reason I never bothered with it. I think it's because I saw mineral oil as one of the ingredients. I dunno, I could be wrong about that. Anyway, at the Bronner Brothers Hair Show there were many new brands. I repurchased their (Bronner Brothers)show deal 4Naturals for Type 3 hair, and a de-frizzing, blowdry/flatiron and moisturizing product from their Isabella's Own Natural Hair Care Line. That one cannot be found in the beauty supply stores because it is professional grade. So I guess when I get around to using it, I will review it. I think the last time I used direct heat in my hair was 4 months ago.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is super cool having long hair because you can wrap it up, bun it up, braid it up to style, especially when you're like me and is always exercising.
Candice~thank you.
ReplyDeleteNerline~thanks. I'll be sure to stop by.
Butterscotchchick~Hey there! I can't wait for your review. I still need to check out the other silk elements products you told me about.
I did nothing for me no matter how I mixed and matched it with other products, oils & add-ins.

Hi J C, thanks for stopping by. Yes, this is one product that I had to really work with. I think now I'll just use it on my ends and see how it works.
ReplyDeleteSunshyne (creator or Hairlista) reviewed this product recently and she gave it 5 stars. She said her hair loved it! Just goes to show that products work (or do not work) differently for everyone.
ReplyDeleteButterscotchchick~yes I read her review. I was like why can't my hair like this product lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL!
