Garlic Mix for Shedding

Hello ladies, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to a very Happy New Year!!!

Garlic Powder
Since my last long stretch I've been having some issues with shedding and a little breakage.  At first I didn't really pay much attention to it, but my ends in the middle of my hair started looking thin to me. I decided to trim my hair a few months before I relaxed to even it up, so I went from MBL back to BSL.  However, I wasn't upset because health before length.  The shedding seemed to be excessive, so I started researching hair forums and Youtube for some help.  While researching and watching videos I ran across an oil mix used for shedding: garlic powder, olive oil, and Dabur amla oil.  I got a bottle and mixed a teaspoon of garlic powder with olive oil and amla oil (estimate the amount).  I let it sit for a day and then prepooed my hair covered with a plastic bag for an hour the next day.  I washed the garlic oil mix out and deep conditioned my hair for about an hour, then finished with moisturizing and sealing, then air drying.  I did not experience my hair smelling like garlic or being dry as some people have experienced.

I have to say that the shedding slowed down a lot and immediately.  My shedding was so bad that I could run my hand down my hair and it would have quite a few strands with the white bulb at the end in it.  It was way more than the normal amount, but after using this mix I'm only seeing maybe two to four strands now when I comb my hair or run my hands down it while moisturizing and sealing.  I am so relieved because I'm on a mission to thicken my hair and grow back to MBL.  So, if you are experiencing shedding, research some things to help stop it and perhaps give this mix a try.  Thanks for stopping by ladies and have a blessed evening!

Last Wash and Hair Update

Just wanted to share some pics from my last wash and length check (my hair is at line 9). I dyed my hair with Loreal's Healthy Creme Gloss Color in "Cool Chestnut Brown."  I was really pleased with the color.  I styled my hair in pin curls and later put it up in a bun.

Hair Cuff Update

I finally ended my 38 week stretch on October 27, 2012.  I think I may have accidentally texlaxed, but I love the texture of my hair.  Originally I was planning to stretch for 6 months, but got busy and ended up going longer.  I learned this stretch that I could go even longer because I've figured out what my hair likes and needs during long stretches.  I decided to cut my thin ends about two weeks before I relaxed, so I went from MBL back to under my bra strap.  At first I wasn't sure how I felt about losing the length, but after I saw how thick and healthy my ends looked I was pleased.  Since I know that my hair can grow to MBL it was no big deal to start over with fresh ends.  I didn't flat iron after this touch up, so I'll post pics of my length next wash.  Here are pics of the hair cuff that I got from Nadege over at http://relaxedhairhealth.blogspot.com/

Spring and Summer Protective Style

My birthday was on Wednesday and I decided to do a style that I wore quite often before I started my hair journey.  This was a protective style (but at the time I didn't really know that lol)! I used to wear my hair like this especially in the summer when it was too hot for a ponytail or to wear my hair down.  The humidity and temperatures in MO can be quite something to deal with.

In this particular pic I wanted a thicker bun, so I braided the extension hair in a thick, long braid and wrapped around my braid.  If I want it to be thinner, I just separate a smaller portion of braid hair and do exactly the same thing.  Sometimes I add hair candy to it.  I got lots of compliments on this style and it was quite cool for a spring day!!!  I think this is gonna be my go to style for the Sunday's we have picnic/church outside.  Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day my friends!!!

New Directions

Since I first began my hair journey there have been times where I felt I was going in so many directions. So, over the weekend I decided to look through some of my hair notes in my journal to see what I've tried, what worked, etc.  After really thinking about it I went back to things I was doing before my journey that actually had my hair thriving...I think it's time to go back to some of those things.  You know: if it's not broke don't fix it!!!

After my last relaxer I really wasn't 100% pleased with my hair. I stretched for nine months and my ends looked thin to me in the middle after I flat ironed.  I decided to get my hair trimmed about 1"-1 1/2" to even up my ends and start over.  Yes, this probably seems crazy since I did have some growth, but I really want to focus on healthy and thick ends!!!

I've decided to put myself on a no heat challenge for the next two months since I have actually been doing this for a month now.  Just in a months time I think my hair feels so much better because I have been letting it air dry, moisturizing and sealing and either braiding it up in the back (sort of a braided bun) and bunning.  This is working for me and it doesn't require a lot of manipulation or maintenance.  I will allow myself two heat passes (emergencies only)~hopefully I won't have to use them because I am enjoying my hair in it's air dried state.  I also want to take this time to try some different things (perfecting rollersetting, flexi rods).  So, here's to moving in a new direction~have a blessed evening my friends!

Ended 9 Month Stretch

I finally got a chance to relax my hair after a long stretch.  I was pleased with the results and the health of my hair overall. My hair is definitely thicker than it has ever been, but it's hard to tell when I flat iron it.  I will try to add some pics with it styled later this week since I have a job interview and plan to wear it curled.  I do plan to trim it later this month (most likely after my first wash) so that my hair is even across.  It always grows like this no matter how much I trim it.  However, I have a question...can someone tell me a good rinse or dye to use to cover gray hair?  It's not a lot, but I want it gone lol.  Thanks for any suggestions.  Have a blessed evening!!!

2012 Update

Hello friends...I know it's been a while since I've posted anything hair related, but I've been stretching. My stretch was supposed to last for 6 months, but I just kept extending it since I was having no problems.  Ends up that it's been 9 months since I relaxed my hair.  I'm not having any problems with breakage or anything, but omg the thickness from the new growth is serious.

My hair has definitely grown during this stretch.  The only thing I have done different this time while stretching is I've been moisturizing with my Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1 (as usual), but I decided to try the Doo Gro Stimulating Growth Oil.  I added some of my favorite oils to it such as JBCO and Lavendar.

So, my plan is to end my stretch tomorrow and I will post some pics of my hair after.  My focus for this year is to make sure my hair is as healthy as it can be and growth comes next.  It is my plan to trim if necessary because I haven't since my last relaxer.

Anyway, that's all for now...have a blessed evening my friends!!!
