Wash Day

I know it's been a while, please forgive me for being MIA. Once I started teaching my life was taken over with reading, lesson plans, grading assignments and all of the other duties that go with teaching. However, I love it!!!

Today was wash day for me. I'm exactly 4 weeks post relaxer and it was really way past time for me to wash. First, let me explain that there will be no pics in this post due to the fact that I'm going to air dry. I did cut my hair (3-4 inches) 4 weeks ago to get rid of uneven ends, so it's once again at BSL. I actually like really blunt cut ends, but the plan is to let it grow back out to MBL.

  • I started with a hot oil treatment using warm coconut oil, jojoba oil, and olive oil (20 minutes). My hair felt so soft after rinsing out the oils.
  • I deep conditioned for 10 minutes with Loreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm. Let me say that after receiving a sample of this product I am totally in love with it. It makes my hair feel amazingly soft. I liked it so much that I purchased the full size jar.
  • After washing out the conditioner, I applied my leave-ins: ApHogee Keratin & Green Tea Reconstructurizer, Hawaiian Silky 14 n 1, Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion, Grapeseed oil. I applied a little bit of Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum and air dried my hair.
I'm not sure if I will flat iron tomorrow or not, if I do I'll update with some pics. Right now my main goal is health before length, so I'm really focusing on my ends and protecting them from excessive heat.

Thanks for sticking around. God bless and Happy Holidays to you all!!!

Product Review: Silk Elements

After watching a few YouTube videos about Silk Elements Megasilk Olive Moisturizing Treatment I decided to try it out.  I've been using it on and off for about 4 months because I wasn't sure if I really liked it or not. The packaging states that it is supposed to condition, strengthen, soften and restore moisture from the inside out. Its deep conditioning properties are supposed to reduce tangles, while giving the hair a healthier look, intense shine, and manageability without product build up.

For me the product does most of what it says. My hair felt softer, conditioned and very moisturized, I know this may sound strange, but the issue I have with this product is the over powering smell and my scalp seemed to itch like crazy after using it. Now the smell is a nice smell and it's what attracted me to the product in the first place. I thought it would be great if my hair smelled like this after use, but it was too much. It's so strong it gives me a headache while it's on my hair.  I also noticed that my scalp was itching after rinsing the product out. I'm pretty sure it's the olive oil because I usually have this problem if I use olive oil on my hair.

However, I decided not to give up on this product completely....I've been using it mixed with oils for my prepoos. It seems to work better for me and the smell dies down after I continue with my regular wash day routine. No money is wasted here because I actually got this product for free with the purchase of $15 worth of hair supplies from Sally's. If you've used this product please let me know your thoughts on it.

Until next time~be blessed!

Hair Journey Update

Hello everyone! I know it's been a long time, but after starting my new job I got very busy. I have a new found respect for teachers and all that they go through to prepare for classes. However, I am enjoying this new career path that I've taken.

I want to update on my hair. I decided to put myself on a no heat challenge for three months. I haven't blow dried or flat ironed my hair since June and it was much easier than I thought. As I stated in a previous post, I have found it easier when I apply my foaming wrap after my leave in and oil. The foaming wrap helps my edges and hair lay down flat and dry with a great shine. So, since this was working out so well I'm going to continue air drying. I don't have any pictures because I haven't really been doing anything special, just bunning. I've been looking for some other styles to try on air dried hair, so that I don't have to just wear a bun. I may step out and try a braid out again or something like flexi rods or roller sets. I got another idea for air drying from a blog I read (can't remember who), but it was talking about air dying in a French roll. Since I love French rolls I have got to try this!

When I decide to flat iron I will do a length check and see where my hair is at that time. Since I finally got a handle on the shedding and breakage I was having, I want to flat iron and see how things are looking. I can tell that my hair seems to bouncing back and I'm very happy about that. Hopefully, if time allows I'll be able to do that soon.

Until next time, have a blessed evening!

So Thankful

Hello everyone! I just wanted to take the time to share some wonderful things that have taken place in my life.  Maybe this will encourage someone else to be patient and keep the faith.  One of my favorite scriptures is Phil. 4:19`"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."  I've been holding on to this inspirational thought for the last two years regarding a lot of things in my life.  Well, this Tuesday I finally got a job teaching 2 classes at a community college in my area. I've been applying this entire time over and over, but it just seemed like I couldn't get my foot in the door. I'm so happy and grateful to God for this opportunity and for teaching me that no matter what's going on~Keep trusting him!!!

Now the second big thing to me....yesterday the President, yes, President Barak Obama came to my hometown and my alma mater, University of Central Missouri.  I got the chance of a lifetime to hear him speak and it was an amazing event.  I've seen the speeches on television, but it was nothing to compared to physically being there.  I'm grateful for that opportunity as well.

I know my blog focuses on hair related things, but I just wanted to share some things with you all. My schedule is about to get busy, but I plan to always take time out to maintain my blog. I will have some updates coming up soon.

Have a blessed day my friends!!!

(Updated) Wash Day

Hello everyone~I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!

Today was wash day for me and I had one of the best wash day's ever. It's been a long time since I've actually enjoyed dealing with my hair.  I'm 13 weeks post and my new growth is kicking in, however, I was trying to decide if I wanted to end my stretch due to some shedding and breakage I had.  After washing my hair, I decided not to texlax and to proceed with my routine.

13 weeks post
Anyway, I used my Silk Elements moisturizing shampoo, then deep conditioned with Silk Elements Megasilk Olive moisturizing treatment (I'll review this later) for about 45 minutes.  After I washed the conditioner out, I decided to try something new for air drying. I watched some tutorials from a LaToya Jones (ToyaJtv). I sprayed my hair with Chi Keratin Mist, applied Hawaiian Silky 14 n 1 for my leave-in, and sealed with grapeseed oil.  I used my Motions Foaming wrap and put it on my hair to help with drying flat and straight, then put my satin scarf on and let it dry.  I must say that I was quite pleased with the results.

That's all for now...be blessed!!!

Hello

Please forgive me for being away so long...I have been so busy with life in general. However, I'm still on my hair journey and have been researching various topics and trying new products.  I'm currently involved in two challenges, so I'm trying to stay focused on reaching some small goals I've made for myself.  While researching I ran across http://www.blackhairinformation.com/.  There is so much helpful information here.  If you've never checked it out, please do so.

Have a blessed evening :-)
